Abbie Lathe & The Lovelies

Introducing the line-up

Great music and songs.......played and sung by talented artists......plus infectious enjoyment throughout!  What more can an audience ask for?

"I have worked with Abbie Lathe for about five or six years, and she never ceases to amaze me. She has a voice as fluid as mercury, that sparkles with joy. She has a deliciously sweet voice that can turn in a moment to a raunchy hot mama. She writes and sings from the heart, and she is also a delightful person who loves music, which comes across in her performance, both live and on record. Get to see her if you can." - Maddy Prior - UK folk music legend

"A major new talent on the block" - Mel McLellan, Radio 2 website

"Brilliant album for the open-minded listener that deserves much success, not too much Abbie or we will lose you to the commercial treadmill - Martin Hudson, Classic Rock Society

"The Lovelies are a four piece acoustic folk/roots band whose members comprise Abbie Lathe & Claudia Gibson, both latterly two thirds of Maddy Prior & The Girls, plus Telling The Bees members Jane Griffiths and Colin Fletcher. Stargazing (Curlew Records) is a built around exquisite four part vocals and beautiful traditional instruments and the choice of material compliments the performance with equal amounts of original & traditional songs plus moving covers of Kate Bush's Army Dreamers and The Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps. A truly wonderful album."   Steve Ward - Classic Rock magazine 2009

Abbie Lathe is a versatile and accomplished multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter and inspiring voice workshop leader. She recently gained success in an international songwriting competition with the beautiful song 'Broken' from her latest album, Low Summer. Angelic Records were so impressed with Abbie that they decided to 'sign her up'! Abbie's fourth album 'Low Summer' was recently released by Angelic. Her singing is regularly featured on BBC wildlife soundtracks, most recently The Orangutan Diaries.

Having completed four national tours and two highly successful albums as one third of 'Maddy Prior and the Girls', Abbie is again enjoying a flourishing solo career. Wherever Abbie has toured in the past the audience reaction has been tremendously positive and this has resulted in many repeat bookings. The partnership between Abbie Lathe and FoF Promotions is now intent on raising even more awareness of Abbie's exciting musical talents. FoF have had direct experience of promoting successful gigs involving Abbie Lathe over the past three years and are certain that this success can be replicated throughout the country.

With Abbie in the line-up are:

Claudia Gibson

With a powerful and emotive voice Claudia adds another exciting musical dimension. Audiences may well already have heard Claudia as the other third of Maddy Prior and The Girls. Claudia embarked on her career in music in the early nineties with pop/folk act Lucid, who enjoyed success at a number of venues in the south, the highlight of which were appearances at three WOMAD festivals

Jane Griffiths

Jane Griffiths began playing the violin at the age of 7. She abandoned classical studies in favour of traditional music while a student at Oxford, and quickly became part of the city's vibrant folk & acoustic scene. Jane also adds vocals for three part harmonies. A regular at the Glastonbury Festival, Jane has also toured Australia.

Colin Fletcher

Colin is a talented and versatile musician with an impressive musical background. More recently in 2005, Colin bumped into Tim van Eyken on Oxford station, who subsequently invited him to play bass guitar & double bass on the BBC Folk Award-winning album "Stiffs, Lovers, Holymen, Thieves". Since then, Colin has toured regularly with Van Eyken. Colin also plays with a panoply of fine acoustic musicians from around the world - too numerous to list and rising acid-folk group Telling the Bees.
