Introducing.......

Blackheart

Genre: Acoustic Folk-Pop

Country: UK

"Blackheart are taking the acoustic scene by storm" BBC Radio

Just 3 years into their collaboration as Blackheart, singer Chrissy Mostyn and guitarist Rick Pilkington are widely regarded as the fastest rising stars of the new folk generation having become established for both their live concerts and their outstanding debut album 'Indigo' and 2009 album 'Invisible'

"They bring folk music bang up to date" Allgigs

Their songwriting blends their folk and rock influences to create a unique style of beautifully crafted, instantly memorable songs that has been christened by the media 'urban folk'. Their highly personal songs paint pictures of their lives with subjects such as hometowns, marriage, faith, bereavement and even suicide all being treated with the sensitive, intellectual lyrical observation that is becoming the trademark of their writing.

"A great band" Aled Jones, Radio 2

Their live shows combine the lemon and honey voice of Chrissy Mostyn and jaw-dropping acoustic guitar playing of Rick Pilkington with highly entertaining audience interaction as they tell the stories behind their songs. Their album track 'Unlike Water' was recently chosen as the soundtrack to one of the biggest TV commercials of the year (Moben Kitchens) and they are regularly featured on national radio with songs from their Indigo album twice being chosen as Radio 2 Spotlight Song of the Day, their single Bleak Midwinter reaching No.1 in the NCM Euro Chart in December 2008 and their current single 'Wednesday Afternoon' making No.9 in the US Tower Folk Chart.

"Personal, penetrating songs, a seamless inventive tapestry" Folkwords

Now signed by major independent label Angel Air Records, and performing both as an acoustic duo and with a new band including Simon Davies of Van Morrison's band and Andy Collins and Brian Thomas of The Storys, plans for 2010 include a full band UK theatre tour in February, performances at selected UK festivals in the Summer, an Australian tour in September, and third album 'Songs from a Satellite' to be released in October.

"Blackheart do not sound like anyone else, rather they remind us why music lifts us up" Dalton Delan, American Public Television (USA)

“Blackheart don’t sound like anyone else, rather they remind us why music lifts us up”

DALTON DELAN, AMERICAN PUBLIC TELEVISION

‘Indigo’ is one of the finest alt.country/alt.folk albums that I've heard in a good while and I need to keep reminding myself that this isn't straight out of the heart of Austin. The opening track ‘Wonderland’ sets a highwater mark for the rest of the album, ‘In America’ comes close to swamping the flood gates. Blackheart are starting to make waves on both sides of the Atlantic. You can hear why.”   FATEA MAGAZINE

“There’s no difficulty in recognising the emotions bound up in each song. These are personal stories, prayers, encounters and experiences revealed by lovingly crafted lyrics in piercingly sharp observations. Chrissy's vocals slide from soft breathy delicacy, through joyous harmony and precise control, while Richard's guitar talent is imaginative and inspired; and their harmonies are just luscious. Their debut album, Indigo showcased the skill, depth and range that Blackheart entwine into their songs. It also reflects the influences and journeys that create their unique sound. Without doubt their new album ‘Invisible’ will be an equal blend of perceptive personal reflections on people, places, memories and futures. Blackheart are going places, no question, no doubt.”   FOLKWORDS

“Mature lyrics, beautifully crafted arrangements and powerful melodies all come together to create an album that really stands out from the pack. Emotive issues they may be, but the way they're presented makes this an album that flows well and is a pleasure to listen to over repeated listens. Blackheart present well written intelligent songs that really deserve to find a wide audience in the UK. Very highly recommended.”   FISH RECORDS

“Blackheart are the hardest-working act on the roots music scene and that counts very highly. Their Indigo album should make their growing fan base happy. Ultra catchy music with a bit of country influence”   MAVERICK MAGAZINE

“Blackheart followed with a performance that was passionate, polished and professional. Richard’s guitar work is exquisite in its flawless complexity and both artists prove themselves very fine vocalists. Chrissy’s voice is lovely. It flows with a passion that thrills - sometimes uplifting, sometimes tragic. This is clever stuff as well as exceptionally good music. There’s no pseudo–passion here, it derives its power from the real experiences that forged it.”   THE JUICE (LIVE REVIEW)

“Chrissy’s expressive and far-ranging voice soars like an eagle and their harmonies and fully produced sound fill every corner of the room. Their hymn to life and love ’94 Years’ will break your heart and mend it back again as you think of your own father and the celebration that they call up so winningly”    DALTON DELAN, AMERICAN PUBLIC TELEVISION (USA)
